Les Joynes (US) is US Department of State Zero1: Art and Technology Artist; Scholar on Art, Technology and Visual Cultures at Columbia University, New York and Visiting Faculty in Cultural Industries at Peking University Institute for Cultural Industries. Founder of FormLaboratory©, (FormLAB) an experimental art laboratory Joynes was 2015 Fellow at the Research Centre for Transnational Art, Identity and Nation (TrAIN) at Chelsea College of Art, The University of the Arts London and has led multi-media projects at Seoul Foundation for the Arts (SASG); Nordic Artists Center, Norway; Inside-Out Art Museum, Beijing; and Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP), São Paolo, Brazil. 

 

He is Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, London; recipient of the Fulbright Hays US Public Diplomacy Award (2014); US Department of State ACMS Field Research Fellowship (2016); Fulbright Hays US Mission China Award (2017); Japan Ministry of Culture Scholarship (1997-2001); and he serves on the Editorial Board for ProjectAnywhere (University of Melbourne) chairing their 2018 new media panel at the New School, New York. He serves on the International Committee for the College Arts Association and researches new curriculum designs for the art school of tomorrow at Teachers College, Columbia University.  (above Joynes coding Arduino processors at NY Resistor Workshop, Brooklyn, New York.

 

Joynes is a graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London (MA); Musashino Art University, Tokyo (MFA); Boston University and Vrije Universiteit Brussels Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences (M.Sc.); and California State University (MBA). He completed his PhD on multi-media practices at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK and Post-doctorate in Fine Art at Escola de Comunicações e Artes, University of São Paulo, Brazil. He lives and works in New York and is represented by Jaeckel Gallery, New York.
